Homework FAQ
To save time I am posting this email for all the newbies:
Aloha Yaana, Is it correct to be shooting targets for homework, >as well as sharpeningpractice of the protocols?
Yes absolutely, you should be doing both : ) Do several mock run throughs of your protocols using XXXX-XXXX as your target ID. When you feel you
have learned them and are moving quickly and confidently through the protocols then move on to practice real targets. Remember, when you open and close your eyes during session are cues, for your sub, so practice that also, not just what you write on the page. It may also be helpful to shoot the same target
several times before you look at the photo. Each session is not only protocol practice, it moves you closer to the target.
Homework time should be a minimum of 1 hour a week, regardless of how many targets that is. The more homework you do the faster you will progress.
How much session time should be spent on shooting a target?
Right now you are only doing Visual Ideograms, the entire process should take less than 3 minutes for each run through… from “On a clean sheet of paper”
… to “Stop” and tearing off your page and returning your desk to the ready position, this also includes the time it takes to learn the target ID. If it takes
you longer than this, practice the protocols again until you can pick up speed.
How do we know when we have retrieved sufficient >information; how many reams of paper for one target : ) at newbie level ?
You have 2.5 seconds to retrieve data from blackboard, if it takes you longer than 30 seconds at this stage to draw a graphic representation or write your impressions you are making it up. For now you are on page 1, each time you shoot a target, you only need one page. The advanced class uses anywhere from 15 to 25 pages or more to record their data, but you will find that out
when you get there.
If you are practicing allot you can use as many reams of paper as you like, one page at a time, just stay in protocols.
Is shooting one target a week enough practice or should we shoot more?
We have many target junkies…..
..betcha cant shoot just one :)
The more targets you shoot the faster you will progress. RV is a communication skill developed through practice, like Arnold starting out in
the gym as a skinny kid (hard to believe huh), if he had not lifted the weights every day… he would never have become Mr. Universe. You are learning a
new set of skills, developing a new set of mental muscles, it takes allot of reps to develop the muscles, and there will be times when you want to stop, or
something else is more pressing, or you wonder if it is worth it because you mind is undisciplined or scared and wants to convince you to quit. Then we
are back to the first question… How bad do you want to be here? …and the Second question Who is really running your life?
