March 9, 1916, nighttime raid by hundreds of Pancho Villa’s horsemen. Seventeen Americans were killed as the town was looted and burned. President Woodrow Wilson responded by ordering General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing to "pursue and disperse" the bandits. |
